Hit a deer in the Alltrack. I’m okay, no airbags went off, it’s driveable. Already have my insurance claim in, no deductible on it, rental car covered, and it shouldn’t affect my premiums. It sucks, but if it’s the worst thing that happens today, it’s a good day!
Now, I have an appointment with the autobody shop on Monday. Over/under on how much it'll cost? In CAD, obviously.
![]() 05/29/2020 at 17:07 |

Holy fuck dude, you set a record! $4100 is my guess
![]() 05/29/2020 at 17:09 |

Deer strike in two months less a day of ownership!
And my guess is around $5k, so we’ll see.
![]() 05/29/2020 at 17:09 |

$7,000
![]() 05/29/2020 at 17:10 |

Canadian money:
30 liters of maple syrup,
10 boxes of Tim-Bits,
1 Set of moose antlers, and
2 used 1992 Arctic Cat sleds, ran when parked.
![]() 05/29/2020 at 17:10 |

Fuck!!!
$6000
![]() 05/29/2020 at 17:10 |

I’d say at least three used sleds.
![]() 05/29/2020 at 17:11 |

:-(x. Glad you’re okay. Well, we’ve established a door skin and paint is $1300. Add the same for the hood, fender and bumper cover. $ 65 0 0 with hardware.

Y’all have an odd hunting season.
![]() 05/29/2020 at 17:13 |

I bought these, I have no idea if they really work but no deer encounters so far
![]() 05/29/2020 at 17:13 |

Do I need a hunting permit to hunt with my car?
![]() 05/29/2020 at 17:14 |

We have them on the work trucks. I doubt they actually do anything, but I’ll be putting some on.

Jesus, I bet the head light (LED adaptive) is 2000 by it se lf.
Glad everyone is ok (except the ) , and no potatoes were harmed.
I’ll guess 7,692 Canucistan Copecs

Heck of a deer. I’m sorry, man. That stinks.
![]() 05/29/2020 at 17:18 |

I was surprised too!
![]() 05/29/2020 at 17:19 |

I hope you and Sammy are both okay.
Front bumper looks okay if not salvageable, so new front wing, bonnet and headlight. Salvage front passenger door, beat the dent out. I’m going to go for $5,500.
![]() 05/29/2020 at 17:19 |

A deer leapt out of the woods in front of my car in February. It was $4,4 00 USD. The damage was slightly different, but I’ll use this figure as my estimate.
![]() 05/29/2020 at 17:19 |

Hard to tell.....did the w indshield crack, or is the window frame and glass still intact?
![]() 05/29/2020 at 17:19 |

Did the deer get away?
![]() 05/29/2020 at 17:19 |

Yep, she wasn’t in the car with me.
And that’s a pretty good guess.

Glad you’re ok. Enjoy the venison over the next few weeks. I recommend cutting out the bruised parts.
$7500 in Canuckistani pesos.

It got away, sadly. Or fortunately. “Canadian Man beats deer to death with bare hands” is not something I want to be known for.

I'm going with $4,800 maple-bucks.
![]() 05/29/2020 at 17:27 |

I wonder if they’ll have to recalibrate your front badge (assuming you have adaptive cruise)
![]() 05/29/2020 at 17:28 |
|
I do, and I don’t think it will since that spot doesn’t look affected.
![]() 05/29/2020 at 17:29 |

It was a low-speed impact at about 35 mph. The deer had just finished its leap and landed low right in front of my car. The impact was low and the deer spun around to the side well away from me. The airbags didn’t go off and, from inside the car, the impact seem rather minor. I came out if it fine. I can’t say the same for the deer.
Car-deer impact is normally not too bad, except for the rare times that a deer leaps off of an overpass.
![]() 05/29/2020 at 17:31 |

Since were talking beaver dollars...I’m gonna shoot for the middle and say your average body shop will charge the insurance 8-9k CAD.
-New headlight
-new hood
-new front bumper (they might be able to get away with repairing it though)
-refinish front wheel
-reskin door
-new quarter panel (fender)
Can’t tell if your A pillar or side mirror got fricked or not so put some cushion in there in case. If your a pillar got hit thats technically frame damage and can add some extra cost.
All of the above plus paint costs (looks like they’re gonna have to do a lot of blending, plus white can be a difficult color) ...yeah thats a big bill.
![]() 05/29/2020 at 17:32 |
|
They will for sure have to do the parking sensors though......
Modern cars is dumb sometimes.
![]() 05/29/2020 at 17:33 |

Oof, that stinks. A day time strike too. I used to fear driving home at night after work back in northern NY. Those suicide deer are everywhere, but they seem especially attracted to the road in the dark!
![]() 05/29/2020 at 17:37 |

Sad Canadian noises - so the car and deer both said “Sore-y eh”? :)
Maybe drive it as is, gives it that rough and tumble look.
4K or so USD

B astard deer. I see it left you with the requisite brown streak too. Glad it didn’t land in your lap!

![]() 05/29/2020 at 17:46 |

Ouch. Nothing is deer proof either apparently.
Put me down for $6500 Canada fun bucks.

This is the second sportwagen damage post I’ve seen today. Guess mine isn’t leaving the driveway for the rest of today. When there’s 2 there’s 3. Hope you get it fixed up soon!

I feel for ya, back in February I had a trophy sized whitetail buck sprint full speed into the side of our Suburban while going 65 on a divided highway in the middle of the day . Hit me on the drivers side rear passenger door and bounced down the side. Scared the crap out of me and if I had taken my wife’s Crosstrek that day it would have been in the back seat. Joker spun around then got up and ran back in the direction that he came from. Bastards won’t come near my deer stand each year but then run into the side of a damn Suburban? I do hope it lived to pass on its genes though, it was a stud.
Thank goodness for comprehensive coverage though!
![]() 05/29/2020 at 17:49 |

Good call. And yep, hopefully within the next two weeks.
![]() 05/29/2020 at 17:49 |

I was actually curious and sleep deprived enough to look into it at one point. I found a scientific study that tested 5 different brands and all 5 created a sound tone outside of a whitetail or mule deer’s range of hearing.
![]() 05/29/2020 at 17:51 |

Oh and I’m guessing that’s at least $6000 in dead presidents. Not sure about CAD.

![]() 05/29/2020 at 17:56 |

Aw man... sorry to hear that. Glad you’re okay.
Out of curiosity, the deer is dead right? Did the impact kill it or did someone have to put it down after?
EDIT: saw the comments below that it lived and got away
![]() 05/29/2020 at 17:57 |
|
No idea about the deer.
![]() 05/29/2020 at 17:58 |

Apparently roadkill venison isn’t worth the trouble...
![]() 05/29/2020 at 18:00 |

I’m not sure... I managed to just barely clip a small doe with the left front on my ‘98 Volvo V70... her head hit the headlight lens and broke it (real glass on those Volvos, and replaceable too!) and the corner marker light. No other marks on the car. Deer was dead as a doornail. Does that count? I DON’T EVEN KNOW!
![]() 05/29/2020 at 18:01 |

Somewhere out in the wilderness, there is an Alltrack-badged deer... LOL
![]() 05/29/2020 at 18:07 |

I’d hunt the fucker down and give him the other fender right in the nose.
![]() 05/29/2020 at 18:08 |
|
Glad that everything is mostly okay.
Looks like the bumper cover is OK, but looks like a new hood, fender, headlight, and door sk in.... $4 ,1 00 CAD? Throw in another $1000 if the bumper cover needs to be replaced.
![]() 05/29/2020 at 18:08 |

But then I’d have two busted fenders.
![]() 05/29/2020 at 18:10 |

My mom tells the story of hitting two deer in two separate instances in her 80s Volvo when picking me up from the hospital (SUPER DUPER PREMATURE BABY RIGHT HERE). Only damage to the Volvo was a broken headlight. Apparently she eventually got rid of the car because something about it was a deer magnet.
In contrast we hit a deer in her 93 Town and Country and damn near totaled it.

Damn, glad you’re OK! Sucks about your new VW :(
I feel your pain on the costs...had the Accent in for a safety inspection today and it failed...needs new front rotors and pads and the front flex-pipe section of the exhaust fixed.
They quoted me $851 PLUS tax, which sounds over the top for an Accent....the flex pipe section has no sensors and is really easy to get to on a lift and is just 6 bolts...they quoted 3 hours of labour for just that!
2 bolts at the bottom of the front cat, two bolts on the subframe, and 2 just before the rear cat, pull out over the top of the subframe....reverse to install new one...parts are like $77 online plus free shipping for that one!
And front rotors and pads...? I can’t see that taking more than 2 hours and the parts can’t be that expensive for it? I found a kit online with rotors AND pads for $67 plus tax free shipping...
Then again, m
aybe I have no concept of vehicle costs....
![]() 05/29/2020 at 18:14 |

Ow :( I would guess $6k at least, those LED headlights are pricey.
![]() 05/29/2020 at 18:16 |

Ouch. I hit a possum or raccoon last night on a back road, but the Aristo was undamaged. Just a little “thunk” sound and that was it. I did joke with friends that I killed Tom Nook, though.
![]() 05/29/2020 at 18:18 |

![]() 05/29/2020 at 18:21 |

I'm glad you're ok, as much as the situation sucks. I'm going to go with $7000cad. (Cars are amazingly expensive to properly repair body damage on anymore..)
![]() 05/29/2020 at 18:31 |

:<
I narrowly avoided collecting three deer with the WRX maybe 2 weeks after I picked up the car. I got a bit lucky and managed to scoot between them.
A raccoon taking out my front bumper and some plastic bits behind it was ~$1500 paid out on the claim. Add a fender, hood, headlight and a new door skin, prep and paint and it’ll probably be somewhere between $4500 and $5000.

A driver's license? I think so.
![]() 05/29/2020 at 18:46 |

That and you have to be going at a pretty good clip for them to (in theory) work. We have black tail deer around here, I’m sure they’re no different from the others you mentioned.
![]() 05/29/2020 at 18:57 |

You’re right , I think. Shop was trying to take you for all you’re worth.
![]() 05/29/2020 at 19:01 |

Ouch, but all things considered not too bad for a deer strike; no mechanical damage and doesn’t look to have affected anything that doesn’t unbolt (and most of all you’re okay).
My guess is $3450 in US dollars, unsure what that works out to in maple leaves.
![]() 05/29/2020 at 19:03 |
|
I was wondering....I mean....brake rotors on my car are like...wheels off, caliper covers off (2 bolts), pads out, calipers off (2 bolts), rotors off (2 bolts)....
And the exhaust is as easy as I mentioned above...
![]() 05/29/2020 at 19:06 |

That can easily be flipped around as “Canadian deer beats man to death with bare hooves” so best not to mess around. They can be nasty.
![]() 05/29/2020 at 19:11 |

Do the mirror lights not come on as the hazards pulse? Or is that orange actually the Canada-spec DRLs? I guess curious why the orange in the headlights is on but the mirror one is off.
![]() 05/29/2020 at 19:14 |

4 ways are on, sometimes the camera can't catch the lights on at the same time because they're out of sync for a split moment.

I helped harvest a road kill deer last fall and turned out pretty good for us. The deer was not totally destroyed tho, just a broken hip and broken leg. Fish and game killed it for us before we drug it off the road and field dressed it.

Actually considering you’ll need pretty much a whole quarter of the car, I’d be surprised if the bill is under 10k all-in. Last time just a rear bumper cover and lower valence on my Solstice was already 2k on the repair alone.
![]() 05/29/2020 at 23:52 |
|
You are lucky they don’t do like VAG by putting the flexpipe on the downpipe ... with the catalyzer, had to change the cat on two different cars because the flexpipe was in bad shape .
![]() 05/30/2020 at 00:18 |
|
yea, but thats a solstice
, which is a bit more rare then a all track for which they are still making parts...
I’m going to ball park it 5k.
![]() 05/30/2020 at 00:19 |

I’m going to ball park it 5k. (and I think thats a bit high)
$
3xx for the fender, and hood each
. couple of 100s for the front bumper trim.
then paint and labour to put it on.
![]() 05/30/2020 at 01:14 |

$5645. Why is it never the car you hate that gets damaged?
![]() 05/30/2020 at 07:20 |

Yeah, it’s just one easy pipe on mine....I thought there were no sensors, I think there is a bung for an O2 sensor on this pipe actually, but not sure.
![]() 05/30/2020 at 07:20 |

Yeah....just not sure how two fairly simple procedures would be that expensive...
![]() 05/30/2020 at 10:33 |

I had a corner hit in my Protege 5. If you have subframe damage, it will be up there. Mine was $18k in 2003...
